Softball Splits Doubleheader at Siena Heights

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team split a nonconference doubleheader at Siena Heights University on Sunday. Both games went extra innings with Kalamazoo winning the opener 7-2 in nine innings before falling 3-2 in eight innings in game two.

Game One

With the score tied 2-2 after five innings, neither team scored again until the top of the ninth when Kalamazoo pushed five runs across. One baserunner was stranded in the bottom of the ninth as the Hornets secured the 7-2 win.

Kalamazoo had 11 hits compared to five by Siena Heights.

Emma Newlove went 3-for-3 with two home runs, a double, two walks, four RBIs and three runs scored.

Lizzy Rottenberk had three hits and a stolen base.

Jordan Wesaw's 2-run double in the top of the ninth gave Kalamazoo the lead. Landrie Fridsma had two hits and a stolen base. Brynna Garden also drove in a run.

Cecilia Schihl struck out three while allowing just two hits in the final 4.2 innings to earn the win.

Game Two

Kalamazoo led 2-0 through the top of the fifth until Siena Heights tied it with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. The two teams were scoreless through the sixth and seventh, and Kalamazoo was unable to push across a run in the top of the eighth. Siena Heights scored the game-winner on a ground out with one out in the bottom of the eighth to win 3-2.

Kalamazoo had 11 hits in the game compared to 10 by Siena Heights.

Brynna Garden had two hits including a double and an RBI. Bella Caza also had two hits.

Landrie Fridsma had a double. Lizzy Rottenberk singled and drove in a run.
