Dubois scores 16 in Women's Basketball loss

The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost 66-57 to Saint Mary's College at home on Wednesday. The visiting Belles led 29-23 at halftime.

Saint Mary's led by as many as 10 points (16-6) in the first half before the Hornets used a 12-2 run to take an 18-17 lead. The Hornets increased the lead to 23-18, but Saint Mary's closed out the half with 11 straight points to lead by six at the break.

Saint Mary's extended the lead to 17 points (47-30) with 12:27 remaining in the second half and still led by 15 (53-38) with 7:08 left. Kalamazoo made a run and cut the deficit to five points (60-55) with 34 seconds remaining, but four straight free throws sealed the win for Saint Mary's.

Saint Mary's shot 35.3 percent overall while sinking 18-of-24 free throws. Kalamazoo shot 34 percent overall while making 21-of-30 free throws. The Belles held a 44-41 edge in rebounds, including 19-12 on the offensive end resulting in 23 second chance points compared to just nine for the Hornets.

Querubin Dubois led the Hornets with a career-high 16 points with six rebounds and three steals.

Anne Colonius scored nine points with three rebounds. Nicole Antoine scored eight points with eight rebounds while Katherine Johnston scored seven points with five rebounds. Hannah Maness added six points with four rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench.

Kalamazoo returns to action at Adrian on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m.
