Women's Basketball comes up short in overtime loss to Rochester

The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team came up just short in a 77-74 overtime loss to Rochester College on Wednesday.

Kalamazoo scored the first bucket of the game, but trailed the rest of the first half. The Hornets were down 11 (21-10) with 6:57 left in the half, but went into the break down just six (26-20).

Kalamazoo fell behind by as many as 14 points (38-24) early in the second half. The Hornets cut the deficit to four points (40-36) with 13:48, but quickly fell back behind by double digits. The Hornets cut it to single digits again with 9:02 remaining and trailed until Anne Colonius banked in a three-pointer at the buzzer to tie the score at 62-62 and send the game to overtime.

Rochester led for the majority of the overtime period. Kalamazoo trailed by three with five seconds left and stole the ball and launched a desperation three that missed the mark as time expired.

Rochester shot 39.1 percent overall while hitting 10-of-29 three-pointers and 17-of-20 free throws. Kalamazoo shot 32.9 percent overall with 12-of-32 three-pointers and 16-of-19 free throws.

Kalamazoo dominated the boards, grabbing 55 rebounds compared to 35 for Rochester. The Hornets also had 22 offensive rebounds compared to nine for the Warriors.

Emily Lindsay led Kalamazoo with 15 points, five rebounds, three steals, two blocked shots, and two assists.

Nicole Antoine scored 14 points with seven rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots.

Hannah Maness scored 10 points with 10 rebounds. Holly Cooperrider and Katherine Johnston each finished with eight points. Cooperrider had four assists while Johnston had five rebounds.

Kalamazoo hosts Adrian College on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 3 p.m.
