Women's Basketball wins 71-66 at Saint Mary's

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team won 71-66 at Saint Mary's College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play on Saturday.

Kalamazoo improved to 12-8 (8-4) with the win. The Hornets remain in fourth place in the conference and now hold a two game lead over Adrian for the final spot in the conference tournament.

Each team held the lead in the first half, but neither team led by more than six points. Saint Mary's did not trail during the final 10 minutes of the first half and took a three point lead (42-39) into halftime.

Kalamazoo took its first lead of the second half (46-44) with 16:14 remaining. The Hornets led by as many as eight points (56-48) with 9:53 left after outscoring the Belles 17-6 over the first ten minutes of the half. Saint Mary's came back to take a lead (61-60) with 3:17 remaining, and led 63-62 with 2:15 left, but the Hornets were able to regain the lead and pull away with free throws down the stretch.

Kalamazoo shot 40.7 percent overall while hitting just 5-of-18 3-pointers. Kalamazoo also sank 18-of-29 free throws.

Saint Mary's shot 42.9 percent overall with just two 3-pointers. The Belles made 16-of-23 free throws.

Kalamazoo outrebounded Saint Mary's 42-36, including 16-11 on the offensive end. Each team had 18 turnovers.

Nicole Antoine led Kalamazoo with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Emily Lindsay scored 12 points with four rebounds while India Hoskins scored 11 points with three steals.

Morgan Overstreet added nine points with four rebounds while Perri (Weiderman) Nicholson scored five points with a game-high 11 rebounds and three steals.

Hannah Maness and Grace Smith came off the bench to score eight and seven points, respectively.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to travel to Olivet College next on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m.
