Women's basketball victorious over Adrian

ADRIAN, MI. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team won 62-56 on the road against Adrian on Saturday night. The women have won three games in a row and are now 12-7 overall and 7-4 in MIAA play. The win puts the Hornets a game ahead of Trine for third place in the MIAA.

In the first half baskets were hard to come by for the Hornets outside of Kelsey Adamski who scored nine first half points. The team as whole in the first half was only 10-of-27 from the floor. The bench came through in the first half with Danielle Simon and Claire Slaughter combining for eight points on 3-of-3 shooting. Still, Kalamazoo trailed the Bulldogs at the break 33-28.

In the second half the Hornets didn't shoot significantly better, but they held the Bulldogs to ten less points than they scored in the first half. Adrian only scored 23 points in the second half on 7-of-29 shooting.

The Hornets took the lead in the second half on another late run by Grace Smith, in which she scored four straight points. It's the second game in a row that Smith has gone on a mini-run offensively in crunch time. Smith's layup with 8:38 remaining gave Kalamazoo the 44-42 lead and it never gave that lead back.

Kelsey Adamski finished the game with 19 points, six assists, and six rebounds. While her backcourt teammate Grace Smith finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Emily Lindsay had a nice game with six points and five boards and Perri Nicholson was strong in the paint with a team-high nine rebounds and three blocks. Querubin Dubois did some dirty work as usual coming up with six rebounds and two steals.

The women will suit up again Wednesday, Feb. 4 at home against Alma.
