Women's basketball beats Britons on Senior day

KALAMAZOO, MI - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team defeated Albion 65-56 on Saturday afternoon. It was the final home game for the Hornets, so they bid farewell to seniors Emily Lindsay, Hannah Maness, Perri Nicholson, Querubin Dubois, and Veronica Hayden before the game in a senior day ceremony. The season however is far from over for these seniors and for the rest of the team as the win guaranteed the Hornets a spot in the MIAA tournament.

The Hornets got out to a really quick start in this contest, and had the Britons down 10-0 after the first six minutes. Albion was pesky and put together a small rally and before halftime it had the Hornet lead down to 31-26

The Hornets opened up the second half much like the first and went on a 9-0 run to push their lead up to 14. The Britons never let up and let Kalamazoo run away with the game, but they also never got the lead back below nine points.

Kelsey Adamski led the offensive attack for the Hornets with 20 points. She also had seven rebounds and three assists. Hannah Maness was the team's second leading scorer with 11, but she was most impressive on the offensive glass, where she secured six of her seven rebounds. Querubin Dubois, who started, had 10 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Perri Nicholson had six points, nine rebounds, four steals, and two blocks as she was absolutely everywhere stuffing the stat sheet. Emily Lindsay had a quiet night offensively, but was great on the defensive end with a team-high three blocks and a steal. Veronica Hayden had three rebounds. It was a fitting final home game for the seniors and most importantly they got the win.

The Hornets head out on the road for their next game Wednesday, Feb. 18 at Rochester College.
