Women's Basketball drops Britons on the road

ALBION, Mich. – Looking to gain its first win of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association season, the Kalamazoo College women's basketball team did just that Saturday afternoon on the campus of Albion College. The Hornets defeated the Britons, 66-63.

The Hornets were ready to go from the opening tip as they opened the game on an 8-1 run and led 14-13 at the end of the first quarter.

After going back and forth for much of the second quarter, the Britons ended the half in similar fashion to how the Hornets started. An 11-0 run in the final three minutes of the second quarter enabled Albion to head to halftime with a 36-24 lead.

With the Hornets controlling the first quarter and Albion controlling the second quarter, Kalamazoo flipped the script once again outscoring the Britons 25-14 in the third and trailed just 50-49 entering the fourth quarter of play.

Tied at 55 with 5:13 remaining in the game, Kalamazoo took a two point lead with just under four minutes remaining on a Grace Smith layup and the Hornets never trailed the rest of the way.

Kelsey Adamski recorded a team-high 19 points in the game, while Smith and Claire Slaughter each ended the game with 13. Smith also brought down 11 rebounds, giving her a double-double.

With the win, K improves to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the MIAA. Kalamazoo will hit the road once again on Wednesday, Dec. 9, when they take on the Trine University Thunder. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
