Women's Basketball loses heartbreaker on the road

Isabelle Clark playing basketball.

WHITING, Ind. – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost in heartbreaking fashion on Saturday as they fell on the road 69-67 to Calumet College of Saint Joseph.

The teams traded the lead back and forth throughout the first half with Kalamazoo going on a run late in the second quarter to take 38-36 lead into halftime.

The Hornets slowly built a lead in the third quarter to head into the final period up by five points. In the fourth the Hornets stretched that lead to 11 points with six minutes remaining, but Calumet hit a couple of timely three pointers to narrow the gap. With under 30 seconds remaining, the game was tied at 67 and the Crimson Wave converted on a layup with two seconds remaining to win the game.

Katie Martin and Krystina Barksdale led Calumet with 15 points each.

Kalamazoo had three players in double figures with Isabelle Clark scoring 20 in 33 minutes of action to lead the Hornets. Emily Kozal and Alayna Tomlinson were the other double-digit scorers with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Eliza McCall had a strong game off the bench eight points and nine rebounds for K.

The Hornets will return to MIAA play on Wednesday, January 3rd as they travel to Alma for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
