Women's Basketball falls by three to Saint Mary's

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team fell 60-57 to Saint Mary's College on Wednesday.

The teams exchanged leads throughout the first half with the visiting Belles eventually taking a 30-27 lead into halftime.

Kalamazoo regained the lead in the third quarter, but eventually trailed by 10 points. The Hornets trailed by as many as 12 with just 3:52 left in the fourth before cutting the deficit to two (59-57) with 36 seconds left, but Saint Mary's was able to use up the clock and make a free throw while keeping the Hornets from getting off a final shot.

Saint Mary's shot 43.6 percent overall compared to 34.4 percent for the Hornets. Saint Mary's held a 39-38 edge in rebounds.

Emily Kozal led the Hornets with 22 points and six rebounds.

Mya Gough scored 11 points with eight rebounds while Danielle Simon finished with 10 points, nine rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Kalamazoo returns to action at Olivet on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 3 p.m.
