Women's Basketball Falls in Final Seconds to Calumet

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost 57-55 to Calumet College on Saturday.

Kalamazoo scored the first eight points of the game, but Calumet evened the score at 13-13 at the 8:58 mark before scoring two buckets to go up 17-13. The visiting Crimson Wave led by as many as 10 (30-20) before taking a 30-21 lead into halftime.

Calumet led by as many as 12 (32-23) early in the third quarter, but Kalamazoo cut the deficit to just two (41-39) at the end of the quarter.

Kalamazoo tied the score early in the fourth and pulled ahead by seven (48-41) with 6:19 remaining. Calumet regained the lead (51-50) at 3:37, but Kalamazoo tied it again (55-55) with 37 seconds remaining. Each team turned the ball over in the final 20 seconds before Calumet hit a jumper with 1.1 seconds on the clock. Kalamazoo's desperation shot from three-quarters court came up short as Calumet came away with the 57-55 win.

Kalamazoo shot 34.5 percent overall compared to 30.3 percent for Calumet. The Crimson Wave held a 53-49 advantage in rebounds, including 22-14 on the offensive end.

Isabelle Clark and Kaytlyn Tidey each scored 17 points to lead the Hornets offensively. Sierra Fraser added 11 points with nine rebounds. 

Mya Gough finished with 16 rebounds, seven blocked shots, and four assists. Georgie Andrews scored seven points with nine rebounds, four steals, and two assists.

Kalamazoo is back in action at home next Saturday as the Hornets open conference play against Olivet at 3 p.m.
