DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost 66-60 in non-conference play at Defiance College on Saturday.
Kalamazoo kept the score close throughout, but the Hornets were never able to pull ahead. Kalamazoo trailed 15-11 after the first quarter and 34-27 at halftime.
The Hornets outscored Defiance 21-20 in the third to trail 54-48 entering the fourth quarter. Kalamazoo made it a four-point game (62-58) with 1:02 remaining, but was unable to get any closer in the final minute.
Kalamazoo shot 41.2 percent overall compared to 40 percent for Defiance. The host Yellow Jackets sank 11-of-20 3-pointers compared to 7-of-18 for Kalamazoo. Defiance held a 38-30 advantage in rebounds, including 17-9 on the offensive end.
Kaytlyn Tidey led the Hornets with 15 points and three assists.
Isabelle Clark scored 14 points with five rebounds.
Mya Gough added nine points with eight rebounds and four assists.
Kalamazoo wraps up non-conference play Dec. 30 at Anderson University before opening MIAA play on the road at Alma on Jan. 4.
