Women's Basketball Defeats Adrian

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball earned its first conference win of the season with a 63-62 win over Adrian on Saturday inside the Anderson Athletic Center.

Kalamazoo led by as many as six points early in the first quarter before ending the first 10 minutes tied 13-13. Adrian pulled ahead by eight near the end of the second quarter before going into halftime ahead 33-27.

Adrian led the entire third quarter and the first eight minutes of the fourth until Sierra Fraser's layup with 1:54 remaining put the Hornets up 55-54. The visiting Bulldogs quickly regained the lead but the Hornets took it back (57-56) with Isabelle Clark's layup with 1:16 left in regulation. Darby Scott sank a free throw with six seconds remaining to give the Hornets a four-point lead (63-59). Adrian sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer giving the Hornets the 63-62 win.

Kalamazoo shot 37.1 percent overall while making 5-of-20 3-pointers and 12-of-14 free throws. Adrian shot 34.8 percent overall with 5-of-23 3's and 11-of-19 free throws. Kalamazoo held a 43-41 edge in rebounds.

Kaytlyn Tidey led the Hornets with 22 points, three assists, and four rebounds.

Isabelle Clark scored 21 points with six rebounds while going 8-for-8 at the free throw line.

Sierra Fraser added six points with five rebounds while Georgie Andrews scored five points with nine rebounds and six steals. 

Mya Gough blocked three shots in the game to break Kalamazoo College's single-season record with 48. Perri Nicholson (2014-15) and Ashley Riley (2004-05) previously shared the record with 46.

Kalamazoo returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 15 at Olivet.
