KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team fell to the Defiance College Yellow Jackets by a score of 71-47 Thursday night at Anderson Athletic Center.

The Hornets (2-7) wasted no time in grabbing a quick 2-0 lead on a Laila Vincent bucket just 16 seconds into the game. Kalamazoo held onto the lead until a Defiance three-pointer gave the Yellow Jackets an 8-6 advantage with 3:18 remaining in the quarter.

That would prove to be the only lead change of the game as Defiance used a 29-10 second quarter to take a commanding 43-21 lead into the half.

Kalamazoo dug in and whittled the lead down to 12, 50-38, on a Kylah Davis basket with 3:36 remaining in the third quarter. Defiance then countered with a 7-0 run to take 57-38 lead into the fourth quarter, where it maintained its double-digit lead the rest of the way.

Cold shooting from beyond the arc and a lack of free throws proved to be the Hornets undoing. Defiance netted 10 of 22 three-point attempts, while Kalamazoo finished just 2-20 from long range. The Yellow Jackets sank 9-11 from the charity stripe compared to K's 1-5 and also had sizable advantages in rebounds (49-40) and assists (20-10).

Vincent led the way for the Hornets with 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Kaelyn Arlington added eight points and eight rebounds and Christiana Hunt tallied six points, three rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Next up for the Hornets is a road trip to Illinois on Saturday to face Dominican University for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
