Women's Basketball Falls in Season Opener at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost its season opener 63-29 at Westminster College (Pa.) in the Teammates For Life Tip-off Tournament.

Kalamazoo trailed 19-11 after the first quarter and 34-18 at halftime. The Hornets struggled from the field, especially in the third and fourth quarters while the host Titans shot over 35 percent in each quarter. 

Westminster shot 39.7 percent overall while making 7-of-19 3-pointers. Kalamazoo shot 23.1 percent overall with 5-of-23 3-pointers. Westminster held a 44-31 advantage in rebounds, including 16-6 on the offensive end. 

Kaelyn Arlington led Kalamazoo with 10 points and five rebounds.

Ella Boyea added six points going 2-for-2 from 3-point range off the bench. Macy Ivins scored five points with three rebounds. Josee Cooke added four points with five rebounds.

Jackie Brines grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to play Manchester University in the tournament consolation game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
