Women's Basketball Drops Season Finale to Trine

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's basketball team lost its season finale 86-45 to Trine University at home on Saturday.

Kalamazoo trailed 19-15 at the end of the first quarter. The Hornets were still within 10 points (33-23) with 3:15 left in the second quarter before ending the half down 40-25. Trine outscored Kalamazoo 28-13 in the third and 18-7 in the fourth.

The Thunder shot 52.2 percent overall while holding Kalamazoo to 34.8 percent. Trine outrebounded Kalamazoo 39-30 including 13-7 on the offensive end.

Ruby Hogan led the Hornets with 15 points, three rebounds, six assists and three blocked shots.

Kaelyn Arlington scored eight points with nine rebounds and three assists. Fellow senior Sara English also scored eight points.

Jordan Wesaw added seven points with five rebounds.

Kalamazoo's four wins were three more than last year and matched the highest total in the last six years. The Hornets averaged nearly 12 points more per game over last year, and improved in shooting percentage, 3-point percentage, free throw percentage, assists, turnovers, steals and blocked shots.

Ruby Hogan led the Hornets with 11.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game this season. Jordan Wesaw averaged 10.2 points and and 5.0 rebounds. Sara English averaged 9.9 points and 4.6 rebounds while leading the team with 50 3-pointers. Jackie Brines finished with 8.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. Kaelyn Arlington rounded out the top five with 7.9 points and 6.6 rebounds.

Arlington finished her three-year career with the Hornets with 622 points (8.9/game) and 530 rebounds (7.6/game), tying her for eighth on the Hornets' career rebounding list. Sara English had 483 career points. Her 50 3-pointers this year tied for eighth in school history
