The Kalamazoo College women's golf team had Sydney Pickell selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District At-Large Team, as announced on Tuesday (May 23). The sports that fall under the at-large category include beach volleyball, bowling, crew/rowing, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, and water polo.
To be selected for the award, the student-athlete must be a starter or an important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA, have played at least 50% of their team's competitions, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
Pickell led the Hornets all season, averaging 81.6 strokes per round in 10 rounds, including 79.2 strokes in five MIAA rounds. This included a 159 (80-79) at the MIAA Fall Final, good for a second-place finish and a spot on the All-MIAA First Team. Her best round came on the first day of the season in a dual match with Bluffton when she shot a 75 at Hidden Creek. That was also the best round in her three-year career at Kalamazoo. Pickell is majoring in business and has a cumulative GPA of 3.83.
Now that Pickell has made the district team, she will move on to the CSC Academic All-American ballot, which will be announced in June.
