Women's Lacrosse's rally comes up just short

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team's second half rally fell just short as they were defeated 13-12 by Notre Dame (OH) on Saturday afternoon.

Notre Dame lead throughout the first half and scored three goals in two and half minutes to take its largest lead of the game at 9-4 with three and half minutes left in the first half. Jordan Reichenbach found the back of the net with 22 seconds left in the half, but the Hornets still trailed 9-5 at the break.

Rachel Madar opened the second half with two quick goals for K. After allowing two goals by Notre Dame, Kalamazoo reeled off four straight scores to tie the score at 11 with just over 17 minutes remaining. The teams traded goals, but the Falcons struck again with six minutes remaining. Kalamazoo pushed for an equalizer, but Madar's last gasp effort struck the post and Notre Dame escaped with the victory.

The game was very even in more ways than just the score as Notre Dame held a slim advantage in 27-26 advantage in shots and Kalamazoo held a 14-13 advantage in draw controls and a 22-18 advantage in ground balls.

Rachel Madar was dynamic for Kalamazoo, scoring a game-high six goals, recording nine draw controls, and causing three turnovers. Amanda Moss found the back of the net twice, picked up two ground balls, and caused six turnovers for K. Lily Baumann scored a goal to go along with five ground balls, three draw controls, and three caused turnovers and Caroline Mundell handed out three assists to go along with her goal.

Katie Johnson made six saves in goal for Kalamazoo.

The Hornets return to action on Thursday, Mar. 15 at 7 p.m. as they take on Cleary at MacKenzie Field.
