Kalamazoo Defeats Albion 13-9

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team defeated Albion 13-9 on Wednesday evening to improve to 3-0 on the season. 

After allowing Albion the first goal of the game, the Hornets went on to outscore the Britons 7-5 in the first half. Hannah Heeren, Rose Bogard and Rachel Madar each had two goals while Madar won nine of her draw controls. 

Kalamazoo scored on their first possession of the second half with another goal from Heeren. Albion nearly caught up to the Hornets with back-to-back goals before Heeren scored again, followed up by a pair of goals from Bogard to make it 11-7. 

The Hornets held Albion's score to seven as Lilly Baumann came up with two straight goals to obtain a six-goal lead. The Britons came up with two more goals in the final minutes but were unable to overcome the Hornets. 

Kalamazoo outshot Albion 32-19 with 24 shots made on goal. They held a 19-16 advantage in ground balls and won 19 draw controls compared to the Britons' five. 

Hannah Heeren and Rose Bogard led Kalamazoo on the offense with 4 goals each, a career-best for both. Bogard also collected a team-high six ground balls. 

Rachel Madar scored a pair of goals and won a season-high 15 of her draw controls. 

Lilly Baumann also scored two and added a team-high three assists. 

The Hornets return to play on Saturday, March 6 at home against Alma. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
