Women's Lacrosse Falls in Overtime at Saint Mary's

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team lost 14-13 in overtime at Saint Mary's College in non-conference play on Tuesday.

After falling behind 1-0 to start the game, Kalamazoo scored three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead. The Hornets continued to lead by two at 4-2 and 6-4 before Saint Mary's scored four straight goals in the final 3:24 of the first half to take an 8-6 lead at halftime.

Kalamazoo opened the second half with five straight goals to make it an 11-8 contest. The Hornets held a lead until 4:31 remaining in regulation when the Belles evened it up at 12-12. Kalamazoo pulled ahead with a goal at 3:37 but Saint Mary's tied it again at 1:47 leading to a 13-13 tie at the end of regulation.

Saint Mary's had the only two shots in overtime. The first went over the goal with 1:59 remaining. The Belles retained possession and scored the game-winner with 1:25 left on the clock.

Kalamazoo outshot Saint Mary's 32-27 overall and held a 29-28 edge in ground balls. Saint Mary's led 15-13 in draw controls.

Rachel Madar tied her own school record with nine goals in the game. She also had one assist, 10 draw controls, five ground balls, and three caused turnovers.

Rose Bogard scored two goals with one assist. Mackenzie Maiorano scored a goal while assisting on three. Hannah Heeren also scored once.

Lilly Baumann led the Hornets with six ground balls.

Kalamazoo returns home to take on Trine on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 11 a.m.
