KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team lost 18-13 to Calvin on Saturday night at home.
The Hornets traded goals with Calvin throughout the first half and kept things even at 7-7 going into halftime. Rachel Madar recorded four goals for the Hornets in the first 30 minutes of the contest. Kalamazoo had back-to-back goals scored on three separate occasions.
Despite Kalmazoo drawing first with a goal by Lilly Baumann at the start of the second half, the Knights took off on a run and outscored the Hornets 10-1 for the next 14 minutes. Kalamazoo had four goals to Calvin's one in the final seven minutes of play but ultimately lost 18-13 to the visiting Knights. Rose Bogard scored three of the last four goals for the Hornets.
While Calvin outshot Kalamazoo 35-26 overall, both teams had an even 23 shots attempted on goal. The Knights won 19 draw controls and the Hornets 14.
Rose Bogard and Rachel Madar led Kalamazoo with four goals on six shots attempted each. Madar won nine of Kalamazoo's 14 draw controls. Bogard's four goals were a tie for her career-highest in a single game.
Lilly Baumann totaled three goals and grabbed one ground ball. Hannah Heeren and Leah Tardiff each scored one goal.
The Hornets are scheduled to play at Albion on March 30 for their next game.
