Women's Lacrosse Falls to UW-La Crosse

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's lacrosse team overcame a 10-6 halftime deficit to defeat Kalamazoo 19-10 Thursday at MacKenzie Field.

The Hornets got off to a hot start scoring twice in a little over three minutes. Kalamazoo led 4-0 less than halfway through the first quarter. The visiting Eagles scored a pair of goals in a span of 18 seconds to make it 4-2 before Kalamazoo scored three straight to lead 7-2 at the end of one.

Kalamazoo led 9-3 with 9:16 left in the second quarter. UW-La Crosse made it 9-6 with 3:04 left. Hannah Heeren's goal with 1:42 remaining gave Kalamazoo a 10-6 lead at halftime.

UW-La Crosse scored three goals in the first two minutes of the third quarter and five in the first seven minutes to take an 11-10 lead. Neither team scored over the final eight minutes of the third.

UW-La Crosse put the contest away with nine more goals in the fourth.

Kalamazoo was outshot 40-32 overall, including 30-21 on goal. UW-La Crosse held a 21-18 advantage in ground balls. The Hornets won 17-of-33 draws.

Hannah Heeren led the Hornets offensively with four goals and an assist. Abbie Caza added three goals. Sophie Hartl scored once and had an assist.

Eden Schnurstein led the team with four ground balls. Hartl had a team-high seven draw controls.

Kalamazoo travels to Sewanee, Tenn. for a pair of matches next week. The Hornets square off against Birmingham Southern on Tuesday, March 21.
