Women's Lacrosse Comeback Falls Short at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team was unable to overcome a 10-1 halftime deficit in a 14-10 loss at Sewanee (University of the South) on Thursday.

The host Tigers scored five goals in the first quarter the first four goals of the second to take a 9-0 lead. Kalamazoo got on the board with 1:14 left in the second, but another quick goal by Sewanee gave the Tigers a 10-1 lead at halftime.

Kalamazoo came out hot in the third quarter, scoring five goals in the first seven minutes to make it a 10-6 game. Sewanee outscored Kalamazoo 3-2 over the final 7:38 to lead 13-8 at the end of three.

Kalamazoo scored the first goal of the fourth at 11:12, then again with 3:28 remaining to make it 13-10. The Hornets were unable to get any closer as Sewanee scored one final goal with 57 seconds remaining to make the 14-10 final.

Sewanee outshot Kalamazoo 37-20 overall, 24-19 on goal. The Tigers held advantages in draw controls (15-13) and ground balls (24-20).

Hannah Heeren led the Hornets with four goals, five ground balls, six draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Abbie Caza scored three goals. Eden Schnurstein scored twice with two ground balls. Ella Spooner scored Kalamazoo's other goal while gaining five draw controls.

Jordan Flink was credited with 10 saves in goal.

Kalamazoo returns home to face Concordia Chicago on Sunday, March 26, at 1 p.m.
