Hannah Heeren of the Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team was selected as the MIAA Women's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday (Mar. 27). This is the second time in her career that the junior has been named a defensive player of the week after also earning the honor last season.

The women's lacrosse team played three games this past week over spring break against Birmingham-Southern (Mar. 21), Sewanee (Mar. 23), and Concordia-Chicago (Mar. 26). The Hornets finished 2-1 on the week after defeating the Panthers 19-18 and the Cougars 12-9, then fell to the Tigers 14-10.

Heeren was just as effective offensively as she was defensively in the three games. Playing in the midfield, she led the team with seven caused turnovers while being second with 14 draw controls and 13 ground balls. Then in the offensive zone, Heeren tied the team-high with 13 points on 10 goals and three assists.

In her first two seasons, Heeren was named the MIAA Rookie of the Year and to the All-MIAA Second Team as a sophomore. She has filled up the stat sheet in her career, scoring 135 goals and collecting 24 assists for 159 points in 39 games. Heeren also has 156 draw controls, 124 ground balls, and 60 caused turnovers to her name.

Kalamazoo will next travel to Concordia-Wisconsin, on Thursday (Mar. 30), with the game beginning at 5 p.m.
