Women's Lacrosse Drops Nail-Bitter to Saint Mary's

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team was narrowly defeated 14-13 by Saint Mary's College on Wednesday night.

Kalamazoo held a 3-2 lead at the end of the first quarter, with the third coming with nine seconds remaining. The Hornets built the lead up to four with five minutes left in the second, but then Saint Mary's scored four goals to even the score at seven at the half.

The Belles scored the first two goals in the third quarter to take a two-goal lead after a 6-0 run. Both teams scored twice in a three-minute span, but Kalamazoo scored the last goal with 39 seconds left to get within one. Both teams scored three goals in the fourth, with Saint Mary's scoring the game-winner with 2:20 left on the clock. 

Saint Mary's outshot Kalamazoo 30-22, 23-20 on goal. The Belles won 16 of the 31 draws and made 3-4 free position shots.

Ella Spooner led the team with five goals, with Abbie Caza adding four. Hannah Heeren collected six points off three goals and three assists while adding seven draw controls and three ground balls. 

Vivian Schmidt had a team-high five ground balls, and Jordan Doyle caused three turnovers. 

Jordan Flink made nine saves.

Kalamazoo will next travel to Albion College on Friday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m.
