Hannah Heeren of the Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team was named the SAAC Women's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (May 2).

The Hornets finished the 2023 season with a home game against Alma (Apr. 25) and a road game at Hope (Apr. 29). Unfortunately, Kalamazoo dropped both contests, 10-9 in overtime to the Scots and 20-8 to the Flying Dutch.

Heeren ended the season on a high note by collecting her 200th career point with a goal against Hope, becoming only the second Hornet with Rachel Madar (2018-21) to accomplish the feat. She had five goals and two assists offensively for Kalamazoo, including four goals against the first-place Flying Dutch. In addition, Heeren had the most draw controls on the team with 10, while also being tied for the team lead in ground balls (8) and caused turnovers (5). In 17 games this season, Heeren leads the team in many categories, including assists (20), points (75), ground balls (55), draw controls (95), and caused turnovers (33) while being tied for second in goals (55). In addition, she finished MIAA play as the only player in the conference to be in the top-5 in all statistical categories - goals, assists, points, ground balls, caused turnovers, and draw controls.

In her first two seasons, Heeren was named the MIAA Rookie of the Year and to the All-MIAA Second Team as a sophomore. She has also been named the MIAA Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week twice. She has filled up the stat sheet in her career, scoring 166 goals and collecting 36 assists for 202 points in 48 games. Heeren also has 213 draw controls, 156 ground balls, and 80 caused turnovers to her name. At the end of her junior season, Heeren sits in second for career goals, points, and draw controls all-time.
