Women's Lacrosse Wins Big at Saint Mary's

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team won 20-12 at Saint Mary's College on Saturday afternoon.

Kalamazoo scored the first two goals and led 5-2 midway through the first quarter before three goals by Saint Mary's tied it at 5-5 at the end of one.

Kalamazoo trailed early in the second quarter but led 10-8 at halftime.

Just three goals were scored in the third quarter, with Kalamazoo holding a 12-9 lead heading into the fourth.

After just three goals in the third, the two teams erupted for 11 in the fourth. Kalamazoo scored eight of the 11, including seven straight, leading to the 20-12 final.

Kalamazoo outshot Saint Mary's 36-22 overall, 27-17 on goal. The Hornets won 26 of the 34 draw controls.

Hannah Heeren tied the school record with 10 goals in the game on 15 shots. She also won 11 draw controls, had four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Tessa Fuller scored four goals with seven assists, tying the school record with 11 points in a game.

Ella Spooner added three goals. Sophie Hartl scored twice. Lily Grelak and Jordan Doyle each had two assists.

Sophie Hartl had 10 draw controls. Poppy Balkema made five saves in goal.

Kalamazoo returns to action at home against Trine on Wednesday, April 24, at 7 p.m.
