Tessa Fuller and Hannah Heeren Earn MIAA Players of the Week Honors

Tessa Fuller and Hannah Heeren of the Kalamazoo College women's lacrosse team were selected as MIAA Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week on Monday (Apr. 29). Fuller was the Offensive Player of the Week selection, while Heeren was selected as the Specialist of the Week. This is the third time in Fuller's first season that she has been chosen as an Offensive Player of the Week, and this is the seventh Player of the Week honor for Heeren (five defensive and two specialist), with five coming this season.

Kalamazoo finished the regular season with two MIAA games by hosting Trine on Apr. 24 and traveling to Adrian on Apr. 27. The Hornets clinched second place in the MIAA with a big 14-13 overtime win over the Thunder and a 19-2 win over the Bulldogs.

Fuller collected 13 points on seven goals and six assists this past week, including the game-winning assists against Trine and the game-winning goal against Adrian. She had three goals and two assists against the Thunder, then four goals and four assists against the Bulldogs. Fuller finished the regular season second in the MIAA with 40 assists and third in points at 74. In her first 13 collegiate games, she also had 34 goals, 22 ground balls, seven caused turnovers, and four draw controls. Fuller set new records for assists in a game (eight) and assists in a season (40), while tying the points in a game (11) record.

Heeren made her mark on the offensive and defensive sides of the field with nine goals, five assists, 10 ground balls, 17 draw controls, and seven caused turnovers. She scored the game-winning goal in overtime to defeat Trine and scored all five goals after halftime. She added four goals and four assists against Adrian. Heeren finished the regular season in the top 10 in the MIAA with 58 goals (1st), 134 draw controls (1st), 76 points (2nd), 87 shots on goal (2nd), 46 ground balls (5th), 32 caused turnovers (6th), and 18 assists (8th). In the record books, Heeren has the third most draw controls, fourth most points, sixth most assists, and sixth most goals in a season from this year. In her four-year career, she has collected the most points (278), most games played (61), second most goals (224), second most assists (54), and second most draw controls (347).  

The Hornets will host their first MIAA Tournament Semifinal in program history on Wednesday, May 1, by hosting Trine at 7 p.m.
