Hornets defeat Olivet 1-0

The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team defeated Olivet 1-0 on the road Tuesday afternoon. It was the women's third win in a row and moves them to 10-3-1 overall this season, and 7-3-1 in conference play.

The Hornets had the lion's share of chances to score, leading the Comets in shots on goal eight to three. Freshman Madison Moote came through again for the Hornets, scoring her third goal of the season off an assist from Maria Rich. The goal came in the 36th minute and Kalamazoo never looked back after taking the 1-0 lead. Jenna Sexton was also a sparkplug for the Hornets offensively with three shots on goal.

"It was great to get three more points," said head coach Bryan Goyings. "Olivet can be a challenging place to play."

Lucy Mailing finished the game unscathed yet again, with Kalamazoo posting its ninth shutout victory of the year. Mailing collected three more saves, bringing her season save total up to 41 and her league leading goals against average down to 0.42.

The Hornets will have a short break before playing their homecoming game against Albion on Saturday, Oct. 18.
