KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team defeated Adrian College 3-0 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play at MacKenzie Field on Wednesday.

Kalamazoo outshot Adrian 7-2 in the first half, but neither team was able to score.

The Hornets got on the board quickly in the second half, however, as Sydney Spring scored in the 49th minute. Maria Rich followed with a goal in the 55th minute (Spring assist) and Paige Sambor added another goal in the 86th minute.

"Sydney's goal early in the second half was critical," said Kalamazoo Head Coach Bryan Goyings. "It really allowed us to control play in the second half."

Kalamazoo outshot Adrian 15-4 for the game, including 6-2 on goal.

"Maria's play in the midfield really stood out," said Goyings. "It was great to see her get on the scoreboard as well."

Lucy Mailing made two saves in goal for her 10th shutout of the season.

"Our defense really limited Adrian's scoring chances," said Goyings. "They were able to get in a couple of times, but Lucy was there to make the save."

Kalamazoo (12-3-1, 9-3-1) remains in second place in the conference with three games remaining. The Hornets are off until Tuesday, Oct. 28 when they host Calvin College at 7 p.m.
