Women's Soccer shuts out Alma

Allison Shaw playing soccer.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team overpowered Alma on Tuesday night at MacKenzie Field as three different Hornets got on the scoresheet in a 4-0 victory.

Libby Munoz opened the scoring for the Hornets in the 23rd minute as she finished a loose ball in the Alma penalty area to put Kalamazoo ahead. K held an 8-5 advantage in shots in the first half, but the score remained 1-0 through the break and into the second half. Munoz finally doubled K's lead in 62nd minute as she picked up the ball in the Alma half of the field, dribbled past a defender, and finished neatly far post for her league leading 14th goal of the season and a 2-0 lead for Kalamazoo.

The Hornets did not have to wait long for a third goal as just five minutes later Allison Shaw took a pass from Munoz and blasted a shot past Kelsey Postema in the Alma goal to put K ahead 3-0. The goal was Shaw's first of the season. Shaw was not finished as four minutes later she provided a cross for Joy Hunziker to finish at the back post and wrap up a sequence of three K goals in ten minutes to bring the final score to 4-0 in favor of the Hornets.

Hannah Wolfe made three saves in goal to record the shutout for Kalamazoo.

Coach Bryan Goyings said, "I thought the team really put together a complete performance for the entire 90 minutes. It was great to see Allison get on the scoresheet and Christina Dandar and Raechel Schmidt were fantastic in the midfield."

With the victory, K now sits in sole possession of second place in the MIAA standings. The Hornets will travel to Holland on Saturday for a 12 p.m. showdown with Hope in a game that will feature the top two teams in the conference.
