NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team picked up a big MIAA win over Saint Mary's on Saturday by defeating the Belles 5-0.

Rosella LoChirco got the Hornets on the board early with her fifth minute goal off of a stellar assist from Kai Ketola. Just two minutes later, Kalamazoo extended its lead to 2-0 as Catie Stamper found the back of the net. Joy Hunziker assisted on the play.

The Hornets got the second half started quickly, as well, when Hunziker collected a goal of her own. Junior Liibby Munoz scored her 10th goal of the season in the 77th minute to give the Hornets a four goal lead. Ketola's second assist of the day set up the goal. Josie Sibley scored the fifth and final goal for the Hornets when she beat defenders to Lillian Schmidt's pass in the 88th minute.

Kalamazoo dominated the offensive side of the ball by outshooting Saint Mary's 29 to nine and putting 13 of those shots on goal compared to just five by the Belles.

Today's match marks the sixth shutout by the Kalamazoo defense this season. Hannah Wolfe made saves on all five shots on goal.

"I was really proud of our start today," said coach Bryan Goyings. "To get two goals in the first seven minutes of the game and another in the first four minutes of the second half was outstanding. The defensive effort was consistent and I was pleased with the contributions of our reserve players; specifically Lillian Schmidt, Grace Karrip, Molly Brueger, and Gina Dvorin."

The Hornets return to MacKenzie Field for Senior Night against Olivet on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
