KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced Monday afternoon that Catie Stamper of the Kalamazoo College women's soccer team was honored as the Defensive Player of the Week.

Stamper, a sophomore from Kalamazoo, Mich. (Loy Norrix HS), scored the first goal in Kalamazoo's lone match against Calvin on Saturday which proved to be the game-winner in a 2-0 victory. Stamper and the defense were in solid form as the group has held its two MIAA opponents scoreless.

The goal was Stamper's first of the season and the second in her career. She has played in every game in her career and has started all but one.

"Our defensive group has really had a strong start to league play," said Coach Bryan Goyings. "As a group they did a tremendous job limiting Calvin's attack on Saturday. Catie's contributions as an outside back were key throughout the match. Her finish to put us up 1-0 within the first 15 minutes was key to the win against a tough opponent."

Kalamazoo returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Trine before hosting Adrian on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 2:30 p.m.
