KALAMAZOO, Mich. - In a release by the MIAA on Monday afternoon, defender Georgie Andrews was honored as the league's Defensive Player of the Week.

Andrews, a senior from Ann Arbor, Mich. (Rudolf Steiner HS), was a consistent defensive force for the Hornets in their 1-0 win over Calvin in the first round of the MIAA Tournament.

Playing every minute of the match, Andrews won a ball that was played forward midway through the first half that led to Josie Sibley's goal.

Andrews and the rest of the defense held Calvin to just one shot on goal during the entire game.

"Georgie's ball-winning and consistent individual defending played a key role in limiting the opponent's ability to find an attacking rhythm," said Coach Bryan Goyings. "She also had a hand in creating the Kalamazoo goal, initiating the attack after intercepting a pass."

The Hornets now look forward to their first MIAA semifinal birth since 2016 as they head to Hope for a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday evening.
