Women's Soccer Wins Opener Over Baldwin Wallace

Kai Ketola celebrating a goal

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team opened its season in fine style Wednesday night at MacKenzie Field with a 2-0 victory over the Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets.

Senior Kai Ketola started the scoring at the 34:33 mark with an unassisted goal. Ketola evaded one Yellow Jacket defender on the left side of the BW goal and then managed to bury a shot past the BW keeper into the right side of the net.

Sophomore Cassidy Short tallied her first career goal just five minutes into the second half, taking a long looping pass from Emme DeConinck that bounced once in front of the BW goal before knocking it in to complete the evening's scoring.

"It was a superb team effort tonight," said K head coach Bryan Goyings. "Kai was excellent through the game and it was fantastic to see Cassidy score her first career goal.

"It is always nice to start the season off with a win and we were able to get a lot of players game experience too. I am excited about the foundation that we have to build on moving forward."

Goalkeeper Lexi Nesbitt notched nine saves on the 13 shots she faced in collecting the shutout victory for the Hornets (1-0).

Next up for the Hornets is a home match Friday night vs. Wittenberg University at 7:30.
