Kalamazoo, Mich – Destiny Garcia's goal in the ninth minute of overtime helped the Kalamazoo College women's soccer team tame its second team of Tigers in as many days, notching a 1-0 victory over DePauw University Saturday afternoon at MacKenzie Field.

Less than 24 hours after defeating the Wittenberg Tigers Friday night, Kalamazoo improved to 3-0 on the season by holding its own against a tough and physical DePauw University Tigers squad.

Garcia intercepted an attempted clearing kick from a DePauw player who was inside the penalty area, steadied it, and then blasted a shot from the penalty arc that narrowly fit in the window framed by the crossbar and the outstretched hand of the DePauw keeper.

"Destiny had a fantastic finish but it should be noted that the work of our back line (Alexis Petty, Olivia DePauli, Maddie Coffman and Sophia Timm-Blow) really limited DePauw's scoring opportunities and put us in position for the win," said Kalamazoo head coach Bryan Goyings.

K goalkeeper Lexi Nesbitt racked up five saves for her third shutout of the year and Kai Ketola led the Hornets with five shots.

"DePauw really made us work and was able to break our rhythm at times," said Goyings. "It is important to be able to find ways to win and I thought the collective effort of the group was critical to getting a result (Saturday)."

The Hornets will conclude their home stand when they host Elmhurst at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
