Kalamazoo, Mich. – A 80-minute weather delay turned out to be worth the wait as the Kalamazoo College women's soccer team remained undefeated, turning back Elmhurst University 3-2 at MacKenzie Field Tuesday night.

Elmhurst's opening goal handed K its first deficit of the season in the tenth minute, but Destiny Garcia answered with an unassisted goal from 22 yards out that flew over the outstretched arms of the Elmhurst keeper and found the back of the net.

Kalamazoo found itself on the short end of a 2-1 contest at the half, but Kai Ketola scored her second goal of the season off an assist from Anna Murphy in the 60th minute. Less than two minutes later, Garcia scored again deep from the right side to give the Hornets the lead and provide the final margin.

"I was really proud of the perseverance that the group displayed tonight and the way the group responded when trailing," said Hornets head coach Bryan Goyings. "Destiny had a pair of extraordinary finishes and Kai's goal was the result of a team effort to keep the opponent under pressure."

Garcia has now scored in three games in a row as Kalamazoo peppered Elmhurst with 17 shots.

"We have really been working to develop and build an attacking mentality as a team. It was an exciting game and I think the strong start to the season reflects the tremendous potential that the group possesses," Goyings said.

The Hornets will face their first road test of the season on Saturday, when they travel to the University of Chicago for a 1 p.m. matchup.
