Kalamazoo – The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team took an early lead at MacKenzie Field Saturday afternoon, but ultimately could not hold it in a 2-1 loss to Adrian College.

Senior Kai Ketola opened the scoring in the ninth minute with her team-leading fifth goal of the year. Ketola gathered the ball along the left sideline, made a nifty move to dispose of an Adrian defender, and then found the right side of the net with a boot from just inside the penalty box.

The lead wouldn't last long, however, as Adrian tied it up just 16 seconds later. The Bulldogs completed the scoring with the eventual game-winner in the 13th minute.

"It was a disappointing home result for us," said Kalamazoo head coach Bryan Goyings. "Kai scored a great goal, but we need to be better with the lead. We have a quick turnaround and need to be ready to play another MIAA opponent next week."

The Hornets (6-3, 0-2 MIAA) had a 15-12 advantage in shots, with Sophia Timm-Blow leading the way with five. Cassidy Short had six saves in her first start in goal for Kalamazoo.

Next up for the Hornets is a home contest against Alma College. Kalamazoo will host the Scots at MacKenzie Field on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
