Kalamazoo – The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team snapped a two-game skid and secured its first MIAA conference win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Alma College Wednesday night at MacKenzie Field.

Destiny Garcia started the scoring in the 56th minute by taking a pretty pass from Savera Rajendra-Nicolucci and scoring in traffic from just outside the goal area.

Just over six minutes later freshman Sophia Timm-Blow scored her first career goal on a free kick from 25 yards out. Kai Ketola's team-high sixth goal of the season closed out the scoring in the 90th minute with an assist from Holly Bowling.

"We have had some difficult results to open MIAA play, so I was proud of the total team effort," Kalamazoo head coach Bryan Goyings said. "It was great having three different players score.

"Posting the shutout was important as Alma has scored in each of its league games so far, and defensively Maddie Coffman was one of the best players on the field tonight."

Keeper Madison Barch, in just her second start for the Hornets (7-3, 1-2 MIAA), claimed the shutout with eight saves. Kalamazoo tallied 20 shots to Alma's 14. Timm-Blow led the way for K with four shots.

"It will be important to use (Wednesday) to build momentum as we continue league play," Goyings said.

Next on the slate for K is a home match vs. St. Mary's Tuesday at 7 p.m.
