Three members of the Kalamazoo College women's soccer team were named to the All-MIAA team Saturday afternoon.

Kai Ketola was named as a first-team member for the second-consecutive season, and teammates Emme DeConinck and Destiny Garcia were named All-MIAA second team.

"These honors are well-earned, and to have a defender, midfielder and forward honored represents the importance of a complete team," said Kalamazoo head coach Bryan Goyings. "I am grateful for the effort these women and their teammates showed throughout the season."

Ketola, a senior midfielder from Ann Arbor, Mich. (Skyline HS), paced the Hornets in overall goals (seven), conference goals (three) and total shots (40). Her 14 total points scored on the season was second on the squad and she scored the game-winning goal vs. Baldwin Wallace in the season opener. Her overall goal total placed her ninth in the conference and her 14 total points was good for a tie for 11th in the MIAA.

"Kai is a phenomenal athlete. As a center midfielder she is a player that we would look to score goals and generate offense," Goyings said. "When she is at the top of her game, we are a very difficult team to play against."

DeConinck, a senior defender from Bloomfield Hills, Mich. (Marian HS), was named to the second-team for the second-consecutive year. She was named the MIAA Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 18 after helping the Hornets to a pair of conference wins and scoring a game-winning goal at Olivet.

"There were a number of times that we needed to lean on our team defense this season and Emme was a major part of that," said Goyings. "She is a competitor that worked tirelessly to make our team better each and every day."

Garcia, a sophomore forward from Chicago (DePaul Prep), completes the K trio after being named to the second-team. After a strong freshman season in which she shared scoring honors with Ketola and was named a first-team All-MIAA selection, Garcia's 16 overall points again led the team and she also paced K with four assists and four game-winning goals. She scored in consecutive MIAA games vs. Adrian and Alma and had a pair of assists in the Hornets Senior Night win vs. Trine. Her overall point and assist totals were each good for tenth place in the conference.

"Destiny's strength is found in her technique and comfort on the ball," said Goyings. "Her composure and skill as an attacker make her a very dynamic offensive presence."

The Hornets finished the regular season 10-5 overall and 4-4 in the conference. They play at Hope in a MIAA tournament quarterfinal today at noon.
