HOLLAND, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team concluded its season in the MIAA Tournament quarterfinals with a 3-1 loss at Hope College Saturday afternoon.

Hope scored in the fourth minute to take an early 1-0 lead. Kai Ketola evened the score by gathering a Hope header off a Hornet corner kick and calmly booting the ball from the penalty arc into the upper-left corner of the Dutch goal.

Hope was able to retake the lead before the half, however, when Sarah Mikesell scored in the 38th minute. Mikesell then scored an insurance goal in the 63rd minute to complete the scoring.

"It was not the outcome that we wanted, but I was extremely proud of our effort," said Kalamazoo coach Bryan Goyings. "Although we gave up the early goal, I thought we were very good in the first half and unfortunate to not get more than one goal."

Ketola, a senior playing in her final collegiate game, led the way for the Hornets with a team-high four of their 14 shots. Catie Stamper claimed four saves in her first start of the season in goal for K.

"I am grateful to our seniors for their contributions over the past four years," said Goyings. "(Larkin) O'Gorman, (Emme) DeConinck, (Olivia) Oswald, (Gina) Dvorin, Stamper and Ketola. Things were not easy this season and their energy and effort kept us going under some difficult circumstances.

"The opportunity to work with them has been a tremendous privilege."
