GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team finished its road stretch at Cornerstone on Tuesday (Sept. 19). The Hornets dropped a close game to the Golden Eagles, losing 1-0.
Kalamazoo had a starting lineup for the third straight game that included Elana Mitchell, Maddie Coffman, Ellie Andrews, Olivia DePauli, Savera Rajendra-Nicolucci, Anna Murphy, Elle Bernas, Holly Bowling, Izzy Kastel, Ruby Hogan, and Destiny Garcia.
A total of 10 shots were taken by both teams in the first half, with eight being on target. Both goalkeepers made four saves as the game remained tied 0-0 at the half. The pace slowed in the second as only five total shots were taken, but one of the shots for Cornerstone found the back of the net, which was good enough for the 1-0 finish.
Mitchell ended the game with four saves, Cornerstone totaled more shots (9-6) and corner kicks (4-3), and both teams had five saves and six fouls each.
Kalamazoo will return to MacKenzie Field for a matchup against Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Friday (Sept. 22), beginning at 5 p.m.
