KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's soccer team finished the regular season and MIAA play by hosting Adrian on Saturday (Oct. 21). The Hornets ended the conference season 5-2-1 and currently sit in third after the 2-1 win over the Bulldogs. The other eight MIAA teams still have games to be played on Tuesday (Oct. 24) to determine MIAA Tournament seeding.

Before the game, Kalamazoo honored the nine seniors for senior night, including Holly Bowling, Maddie Coffman, Olivia DePauli, Destiny Garcia, Anna Murphy, Savera Rajendra-Nicolucci, Amalia Scorsone, Cassidy Short, and Erin Somsel.

The starting lineup changed slightly on senior night as Elana Mitchell, Cassidy ShortMaddie CoffmanOlivia DePauliSavera Rajendra-NicolucciAnna MurphyHolly BowlingRuby HoganErin SomselDestiny Garcia, and Amalia Scorsone got the nod.

Adrian controlled possession for most of the first half, creating seven scoring chances compared to Kalamazoo's three. However, the Hornets got on the board first in the 37th minute as Bernas and Bowling did a give-and-go at the top of the box, with Bernas finishing her team-leading seventh goal of the season. K took that 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The first 30 minutes of the second half were primarily spent in the midfield as both teams battled to gain possession. In the 77th minute, a miscue by the Hornet defense allowed a loose ball in the box that the Bulldogs jumped on and converted into the game-tying goal. Adrian continued to pressure Kalamazoo, but a foul by the Bulldogs in the Hornets' box set up a penalty kick. Murphy stepped up and put away her third goal of the season for the eventual game-winning goal in the 86th minute.

Mitchell made six saves on seven opportunities. Kalamazoo totaled more corner kicks (4-2), saves (7-1), and fouls (18-14), while Adrian finished with more shots (16-6).

Kalamazoo will host an MIAA Tournament game on Saturday (Oct. 28) with the opponent and time to be determined.
