Women's Swimming & Diving Third at MIAA Championships

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College women's swimming and diving team completed the final day of the MIAA Championships at Calvin on Saturday (Feb. 18). The Hornets finished in third place with 500.5 points.

Hope won the MIAA Championships with 1,131 points and was followed by Calvin (854.5 points), Kalamazoo, Albion (494 points), Alma (325 points), and Olivet (286 points).

Wednesday, Feb. 15

There was only one final on the first day of action as the 800 Free Relay team competed. Lizzy Silber, Frannie Turner, Olivia Bagwell, and Mya Richter swam an 8:04.39, which was good for third. Kalamazoo's second team of Ava Williams, Hailey Yoder, Kelsey Logsdon, and Katie Rock touched the wall at 8:21.16 in the second heat.

Thursday, Feb. 16

The 1-meter dive finals took place on day two of the competition. Sam Vande Pol was the best Hornet, finishing third with 406.10 points. This was the first time that Vande Pol eclipsed 400 points in an 11-dive event in her career. Sofie Santos finished right behind Vande Pol in fourth with a score of 358.05. 

Kalamazoo had two relay events finish fourth at the MIAA Championships on the second day. First, Anni Schnell, Camille Misra, Bagwell, and Richter were on the 200 Free Relay team and had a time of 1:39.10. Then, in the 400 Medley Relay, the team of Misra, Schnell, Richter, and Mary Muenzenmaier finished the race with a time of 3:59.65.

Friday, Feb. 17

Vande Pol improved from day two to day three by finishing second in the 3-meter event. Like the 1-meter, this was the first time she eclipsed 400 points in the 3-meter with 413.45 points. Sarah Densham was just behind Vande Pol in third at 391.90 points, and then Santos came in seventh at 359.10 points. 

Before the finals, Misra broke her own school record in the 100 Back in the prelims. The time of 56.57 was also under the NCAA B Cut line for the NCAA Championships. She followed that up with a 56.60 in the finals, which was good for second place. 

Schnell also had a top-eight finish in the 100 Fly, swimming a 59.00, which was good for sixth. The 200 Medley was the lone relay of the day as Misra, Muenzenmaier, Schnell, and Bagwell swam a 1:49.24.

Saturday, Feb. 18

Misra competed in the 200 Back on the final day of competition and finished third with a time of 2:04.51. In the 200 Fly, Schnell and Turner tied for sixth after they both touched the wall at 2:15.99. Katie Rock swam in the 1650 Free and finished seventh with a time of 18:43.40. The 400 Free Relay team wrapped up the championships as they swam a 3:38.38. 

The Hornet divers will next compete at the NCAA DIII Central Diving Regionals at Chicago on Feb. 24-25.
