Camille Misra and Sam Vande Pol of the Kalamazoo College women's swimming & diving team have been named to the All-MIAA Women's Swimming & Diving team on Thursday (Feb. 23).
Misra and Vande Pol have consistently been the top swimmer and diver for the women's swimming & diving team all season. They helped the Hornets to a third-place finish in the MIAA Championships with 500.5 points, the best finish for Kalamazoo since the 2016-17 season.
A senior from Birmingham, Mich., Misra is a backstroke and freestyle swimmer for the Hornets. At the MIAA Championships, she broke the 100 and 200 Back school records in consecutive days. Misra swam 56.57 in the 100 Back, which was good for second place, and 2:04.51 in the 200 Back, ending up in third place. During the season, she also had times of 24.24 in the 50 Free, 54.92 in the 100 Free, 5:22.03 in the 500 Free, and 26.66 in the 50 Back. Misra was awarded MIAA Swimmer of the Week once throughout the season and was SAAC Women's Hornet of the Week five times.
A hometown diver, Vande Pol hails from Kalamazoo, Mich., and turned in a stellar season for the Hornets. In 11-dive events, she exceeded scores of 400 for the first time in the 1-meter and 3-meter at the MIAA Championships. Her score of 413.45 in the 3M was the second best, and then she finished third in the 1M with a score of 406.10. Vande Pol's best six-dive scores during the season were 252.90 in the 3M and 238.04 in the 1M. The sophomore was a two-time MIAA Diver of the Week this season for Kalamazoo.
This is the first time that Misra and Vande Pol have been selected to an All-MIAA team in their careers. Vande Pol will compete for the Hornets at the NCAA DIII Diving Central Regional on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 24-25).
