Women's Tennis advances to MIAA Tournament Championship

KALAMAZOO - The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team defeated Albion College 5-3 in an MIAA Tournament semifinal at Stowe Stadium on Thursday to advance to Friday's tournament championship at Hope.

Kalamazoo will face the top-seeded Flying Dutch, winners of today's other semifinal match, 5-0, over Calvin.

Kalamazoo led Albion 2-1 after wins at No. 1 and 3 doubles. Sarah Woods and Olivia Bouchard won 8-0 at No. 1 while Kelsey Moran and Cheryl Zhang won 9-8(6) at No. 3.

Albion made it a 3-3 match after winning two of the first three singles matches, but wins at No. 6 and eventually No. 1 sealed the win for the Hornets.

Bouchard won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles while Zhang won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 6. Woods won the clincher, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 1.

The winner of Friday's tournament championship match earns the league's automatic bid into the NCAA III Championships.
