Women's Tennis clinches MIAA title outright with 7-2 victory at Saint Mary's

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team clinched the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) title outright Saturday, April 26 with a 7-2 win over Saint Mary's.

Kalamazoo got off to a 3-0 sweeping all three doubles flights. Senior Jenna Riehl and sophomore Sarah Woods defeated Mary Catherine Faller and Kayla Sexton 8-5. Senior Kelsey Moran and junior Olivia Bouchard won second doubles 8-4 while sophomore Ania Latala and freshman Sabrina Dass won third doubles 8-4.

In singles, Woods defeated Faller 6-0, 6-4 at first singles and Riehl won second singles 6-2, 6-3. Dass defeated Shannon Elliot 7-5, 6-0 at fourth singles while Bouchard won her sixth singles flight 6-3, 6-3.

The Belles won third and fifth singles.

Kalamazoo finishes its regular season 14-4 and a perfect 8-0 in the MIAA. In the process, K clinches the MIAA title outright for the first time since 1996.

The Hornets will be the top seed for the MIAA tournament and play host to Saint Mary's in the semifinals of the tournament.
