MADISON, Wis. - The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team lost its first match at the Madison Invitational 6-3 to No. 29 UW-Whitewater.
Kalamazoo trailed 2-1 after doubles despite a competitive 8-5 loss at two. Sarah Woods and Sabrina Dass (10th in region) defeated Megan Humphreys and Jillian Wallace (7th in region) 8-6 at one doubles.
Kalamazoo won at one and two singles, but was defeated in the other four matches. Woods (16th in region) defeated Humphreys (3rd in region) 7-6(3), 7-6(6) at one. Maria Franco defeated Bridgid McGuire (25th in region) 4-6, 6-3, 10-4 at two. Dass was defeated narrowly 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 at three.
Kalamazoo faced Kenyon later in the day on Friday and defeated the Ladies 6-3.
Kalamazoo trailed 2-1 after doubles, but won five of the six singles matches to claim the win.
Sarah Woods and Sabrina Dass won 8-4 at one doubles. Woods also won 7-6, 6-0 at one singles while Dass won 6-4, 6-4 at three singles.
Maria Franco won 6-4, 6-1 at two singles. Olivia Bouchard won 5-7, 6-1, 10-7 at four while Cheryl Zhang won 6-1, 5-7, 10-6 at five.
Kalamazoo is scheduled to play next on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. CT.
