KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced Monday afternoon that Sophie Zhuang of the women's tennis team has been named Athlete of the Week.
The sophomore from Northville, Mich. (Northville HS) went 4-0 this past week with two wins in singles play and two in doubles. She started out the hot streak on Friday in the team's 6-3 win at Saint Mary's with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles and a win with Helen Pelak in the No. 1 doubles match.
In Kalamazoo's 8-1 win against Trine in its MIAA opener, she took on Eva Morales at No. 3 singles and won in straight sets, and again took home a win with Pelak at No. 1 doubles, 8-1.
Zhuang holds a 3-0 record over three matches in three and four singles play and is 3-0 with Pelak at the top of the Hornet doubles lineup.
Kalamazoo (3-0, 1-0 MIAA) is scheduled to be back in action Tuesday, March 30 at Calvin.
