The Kalamazoo College women's tennis team had a trio of individuals selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, as announced on Tuesday (May 9). The student-athletes selected were Rebecca Elias, Meghan Killmaster, and Sophie Zhuang.

To be selected for the award, the student-athlete must be a starter or an important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA, have played at least 50% of their team's competitions, and be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.

Elias mostly played doubles matches for the Hornets this season, finishing with an 8-7 record. She played in the #3 spot with Ivy Walker, as the duo went 6-7 with a 4-2 record in the MIAA. Elias also paired up with Soussana Kimbouris for two matches, coming out with two wins, including a conference win. She competed in six singles matches as well, finishing 3-3 with two MIAA wins in the #5 and #6 spots.

As an All-MIAA Second Team performer, Killmaster competed in the #3 singles and #2 doubles spots for Kalamazoo. She finished 10-8 in doubles matches, including 4-2 in conference matches. Killmaster teamed up with Maddie Hurley for 15 matches while playing with Walker in the other three. She saw the most success in singles matches during conference play, finishing 5-1 and 6-11 overall.

Zhuang rounded out her career as a Hornet with a successful season, earning All-MIAA First Team honors and the MIAA Karen Caine Award as the top scholar-athlete in the conference. On the court, Zhuang and doubles partner Renee Torres went 13-10 in #1 doubles matches, including a 6-1 conference record. As the #2 singles player, she had a 10-10 record and also had a 6-1 MIAA record.

Now that the three student-athletes have made the district team, they will move on to the CSC Academic All-American ballot, which will be announced in June.
