Volleyball edged in five sets at Saint Mary's

The Kalamazoo College volleyball team was narrowly defeated in five sets at Saint Mary's on Tuesday.

The host Belles won the first two sets (25-20, 27-25), but Kalamazoo came back with wins in the third and fourth sets (25-18, 25-20).

Kalamazoo took a 6-3 lead in the decisive fifth set, but Saint Mary's rolled off six straight points to take a 9-6 lead. After falling behind 11-7, Kalamazoo battled back to make it 11-10, but the Belles were able to close out the final set, 15-13.

Nya Greenstone led the Hornets with 14 kills and 13 digs. Kelsey Hill had 13 kills and six blocks. Johanna Kupe had 10 kills.

Alex Gothard had 39 assists with 10 digs.

Allison Liddane led the team with 24 digs. Camryn Romph had 14 digs.

Kalamazoo travels to Albion on Friday to face the Britons at 7 p.m.
